STREET MINISTRY

20200218_200318.jpg

On Tuesdays and Friday’s evenings, our team goes out to minister on the streets with the sole objective of building relationships with street adults.  By playing games and chatting, we try to understand the reasons that led these adults to choose to live on the streets. By getting to know each one personally, we can begin to identity the best way to assist them.

“Nobody deserves to have live on the streets. Every person has their own story of why they ended up on the streets”

OPEN HOUSE

Twice a week, from nine to noon, we open our ministry house to street adults. We have a time on hearing His word, worship and sharing. These individuals can have a shower and also obtain some clean clothes if needed. These open house sessions allows us to develop a way to attend the individual needs of these street adults, for example: assistance in obtaining personal documents, referrals to rehabilitation/recovery centers even maybe a moment of just talking and listening to their stories.

The Rescue House has a list of contacts with recovery centers in Belo Horizonte and in different towns within the state that offers assistance to adults who would like to leave the streets and kick off addictions. These recovery programs generally last nine months whereby the residents are encouraged to seek God to overcome addiction. And in addition to developing practical skills in order for them to be able to better their chances of obtaining a job later on.

MINISTRY AT JUVENILE CORRECTION CENTERS

These juvenile correction centers are the government´s response to addressing teenagers who committed minor infractions. Our team offers English workshops at a few of these centers. At the end of each class we have a time of sharing where we encourage and seek to help these participants to reflect on their choices and the consequences of these decisions. These workshops are run weekly for a period of four months and at the end of this period, we hold a simple graduation party with those who finish the course satisfactorily.

CAMPS

Twice a year our team organizes camps for the street adults that comes to our open house sessions or those we have encounters with on the streets. Amidst hearing the word of God, playing games, conversations often time provides these participants conducive moments to consider new beginnings and a change in their life direction. During these camps, we get the opportunity to talk about God in a more intentional and profound way.

CHRISTMAS STREET PARTY

Under the street lights, food and drinks are served while the sound of conversations and music mix together in a pleasant moment when we celebrate Jesus together with the population that lives on the streets. We know that for many of the participants, this is the only Christmas celebration that they will take part of.
